Thirty-two-year-old Michael Downer was nabbed recently at the Norman Manley International Airport with 50 pellets of ganja.
Downer, a resident of Hope Pastures pleaded guilty Friday in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court to charges of possession and taking steps to export ganja.
Senior Parish Judge Andrea Collins sentenced Downer to $4,000 or 30 days for possession, $8,000 or 60 days for taking steps to export, plus a 60-day sentence.
Downer was held after midday February 4 and taken to the police Narcotics Division where he confessed to have ingested ganja.
He was taken to hospital where, over a two-day period, he passed out the pellets of ganja, weighing over 15 ounces.
In court Friday, Downer admitted that he knew better, and the misdeed was for personal gain.
