Telecommunications Company, FLOW, says it is aware of the latest phone scam which is targeting Jamaicans and has activated its fraud team.
The scam, known as the WANGIRI, is typically identified by a single ring which prompts a return call from the unsuspecting customer, and results in high charges, or usage of credit.
The scam originated in Japan, and literally means one ring and cut.
In a statement FLOW says it is treating the matter as a priority and will be blocking numbers which are found to be involved in this scam.
FLOW is encouraging customers to be vigilant, and treat calls from unfamiliar country codes, with due suspicion.
It says if customers accept a call from an unfamiliar area code, and are unsure, they should end the call quickly without sharing personal details or following any instructions that they might receive.
