JAMAICA Hanover Police Steadfast in returning calm to Williamsfield
The Hanover Police are seeking to reassure residents of Williamsfield that all is being done to have the community return to a state of peace, following a flare up of violence.
The most recent incident involved the shooting of 6 persons – 3 fatally, including 2 young children.
Concern has been raised by residents about their safety, with some residents reportedly moving out of the community.
DSP Ainsley McCarthy of the Community Safety and Security Branch says police and some religious leaders conducted house to house meetings with some residents, last evening.
He says some residents are fearful, but not to the point of wanting to flee the community.
DSP McCarthy says the police encouraged the citizens, and promised to provide protection.
He says Hanover remains a relatively safe parish, with a few sporadic incidents in recent weeks.
