A US based Immigration Official says the arrest of a Jamaican man during ICE Raids recently is not surprising.
Irwin Clare, Managing Director of Caribbean Immigrant Services, says the Trump Administration has empowered the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE, to seek out and remove persons with criminal records.
He says many Jamaicans are caught up in the US Immigration conundrum.
He says while raids carried out by ice are common, the recent development is a cause for concern, and has left many Caribbean nationals living in fear.
He says standard procedure for a detainee with immigration issues, involves being prepared for deportation. If that person has a warrant against him, he will serve the prison time, then be removed.
He expressed concern that in most cases, the detainee is taken out of state to an area far away from family, who would lobby on that persons behalf.
