Jamaica’s sportsman and woman of the year awards ceremony tonight


Jamaica’s sportsman and woman of the year 2016 will be decided this evening at the awards ceremony at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel starting at 7pm.

Rio Olympic gold medallist’s Usain Bolt and Elaine Thompson are the favourites to walk away with top honours

Bolt completed the historic triple -triple in Rio winning gold in the 100 and 200 metres and the 4x100m relay, taking his overall total of Olympic gold medals to nine.

Olympic 110 meters high hurdles champion and IAAF World Indoor champion Omar Mcleod  along with West Indies cricketer Marlon Samuels are the other nominees in the men’s category.

Elaine Thompson became the first woman to win double Olympic gold in the 100 and 200m sprints since 1988 and took a silver medal as part of Jamaica’s 4x100m relay team in Rio is joined on the nominees list by last year’s winner Shelly Ann Fraser -Pryce, Olympic 400 meters bronze medallist Sherika Jackson, and West Indies women’s T/20 star Stafanie Taylor.
